Our relationships play a powerful role in shaping our overall wellbeing.

When we experience secure, supportive relationships, we often feel more grounded, confident, and emotionally balanced. Feeling understood, respected, and valued by the people around us helps to create a sense of safety and connection — both of which are essential foundations for healthy psychological wellbeing.

While we often think about relationships in terms of family, partners, or close friends, it’s also important to recognise that our work relationships matter too.

The dynamics we experience with colleagues, team members, and managers can have a significant impact on our daily wellbeing. Positive work relationships can bring collaboration, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. On the other hand, difficult dynamics can sometimes feel draining, stressful, or emotionally taxing.

Part of nurturing our wellbeing is learning how to navigate these different relationships while still maintaining our own foundations of balance and self-awareness.

It can be helpful to pause and reflect:

  • Which relationships in your life currently feel supportive and uplifting?

  • Where do you feel most comfortable being yourself?

  • Are there any relationships that leave you feeling depleted or unsettled?

  • What boundaries, conversations, or adjustments might help restore balance?

Becoming aware of how our relationships influence our wellbeing allows us to start making more intentional choices about how we show up with others, how we communicate, and how we care for ourselves in the process.

Healthy relationships — both personal and professional — don’t happen by accident. They often grow through awareness, honesty, and the willingness to develop new ways of relating to ourselves and others.
